ESA Wonderful Wednesday May 29, 2013

Happy and Wonderful Wednesday Everyone!

I hope that your Memorial Day was filled with memories and reminders of those who have served our country well.  I was reminded of my mother and grandmother taking us to cemeteries south of San Francisco posting flowers at the gravesites of those in our family.  And when we would travel to see family in Hawaii, we would go the day after our arrival taking  our lei's to cemeteries as well. My daughter, Holly, works for a small company and she reports to a woman who travels to Oklahoma each Memorial Day to do the same.  It is a tradition.

Traditions are a very important part of what we celebrate in ESA. It helps us connect with those who laid the groundwork of what and who we are now.  Traditions continue and change.  I have brought back some and hope to bring back more as we travel through this sorority year.

Occasionally through the year, we'll do a bit of "It's A Wonderful Life" Trivia - just for fun!  Much of what George Bailey learned about people was from this actor who was brilliant in the role of of the villainous rich man.  What was his character and who played him?

Now for birthdays for this month that were missed last week as we are just getting started.  Happy May Birthday to the following Sisters:

President Sue Ann's First Posting - Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Greetings from Sue Ann.  Happy and Wonderful Wednesday!

This is my first posting for the blog this sorority year!  I am very excited to be in contact with you on a weekly basis. If you want to bypass your District President, to have the email/blog posting sent to you directly, let me know by email; and, I will put you on my contact list.  Be sure to provide me with your name and email address.  My blog format may change in the weeks to come as I become more familiar in this "blogging process".  I am new to this too.  But there is nothing like giving it a try!

My goals this year as your Texas State Council President is recognition, communication, and energize our membership!  I hope to accomplish this through this by weekly blogs and email postings.  This would allow you as members to join in and post as well.

One thing I do want to do is recognize your birthdays.  This is one of the reasons we've asked for you birthday information.  I know I can start this off for this week as we sang "Happy Birthday" to Deanie Smith of Epsilon Pi, District V, during the Third General Assembly of last weekend's Convention in Addison. I may have some belated birthdays to recognize as Joyce Smith, Corresponding Secretary and Roster Chairman, starts the roster update process and gets us organized in upcoming birthdays.  So bear with us!  This too is something new!

Since I work with Donna Carter at HCSC (also known as BlueCross BlueShield of Texas), our department is very excited for her as she retires, Thursday, May 23rd after 25 years of service!  Donna is the sister of Debbi Morris, our newly installed Second Vice President.  They are members of Sigma Iota, District VI.  Congratulations Donna.... I will miss seeing you every work day!

If you were unable to attend the Convention, we missed you!  I hope you will be able to attend the August Board Meeting and Leadership Seminar hosted by District VII in Abilene at the MCM Elegante!  District VII is planning a great weekend.  And, our Leadership Seminar Chair, Rose Pasillas is working on a very special presentation for us.

Additionally, if you are planning to enter in the IC Competitions for July 2013, you need to send in your entry for "What ESA Means to Me" before June 1, 2013 and your entry for the Association of the Arts before July 1, 2013.  On Monday, Suzy Winters, IC President 2013-2014 notified us that the Association of the Arts entry registration has been extended!  Yeah!  Be aware that you do not send them to the same person or address.  Go out to the ESA Headquarter's WebSite under Member Information for more details.  You do not need to be present at IC Convention in Norfolk to enter into these competitions.  There are about 18 of us going to IC this year.... we would love for you to enter and we can bring home your awards!  So deadlines are just around the corner!

The upcoming weekend, we celebrate Memorial Day.  I believe several members in the Dallas area will be participating in "Carry The Load".  I am proud they will be doing that in thanks for those who defend our freedom and serve us on a daily basis.  Be safe for the holiday weekend!

Remember, ESA's ... A Wonderful LIfe!  Love and Hugs to all Every Day Angels,
Sue Ann Tarleton, Texas State Council President 2013-2014 ESA
