ESA Wonderful Wednesday – December 25, 2013

Happy Wonderful Christmas Wednesday!

Not all of us celebrate the event that happened well over 2000 years ago… for those of us who do, I pray the Blessings and Happiness of this Christmas Day 2013 stay with you throughout the next year to come. I hope your Christmas was Merry and Bright! I love you all!

Our Christmas was midday for the Dallas family of Smith-Tarleton-Hendersons-Neely-Pickering (five in all – such a mix of family)… gifts opened, baking completed, roast done and gone (I tried a Trisha Yearwood recipe I saw on Food Network last week), calls to family still going on…, and maybe catch a movie at AMC later tonight! Busy Christmas Day!

Last week's IAWL trivia question.... The day it went so horribly wrong for George Bailey, loss of the money by Uncle Billy, a car accident, a wish to never have been born, and so on.... What day of the year was it? It only comes once per year… What day was it? It was Christmas Eve!

Did you all catch the showing of “It’s A Wonderful Life”? I did in addition to “White Christmas” and “A Christmas Story”….Traditions!

And, to answer a popular question.... All the “Grinch” hats were completed and delivered… now I have an order for a college student…. Bethany Harper, Cheree’s oldest daughter, before she goes back to college…. Those darn college kids… they will wear anything! So far, the reactions to them have been awesome!  This all came from a picture that my daughter Holly sent me from Pinterest thinking I could loom a hat for the State Fair in 2014!

Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday to the following sisters (and brothers) for the coming week!
Shirley Hartley – December 27 of Kappa Kappa, District 4
Sherrye McAnelly – December 27 of Epsilon Pi, District 5
My sister Nancy Lee Tarleton Baird – December 28th… Happy Birthday Sis!
Tina Gross – December 31 of Zeta Tau, District 2, District Vice President and State Publicity Chairman
My birthday, Sue Ann Tarleton – December 31 of Chi Kappa and State President
And the New Year’s Day Babies…
Nancy Barnhill AND Nell Sanders – both on January 1, 2014!!! And both from Epsilon Pi, District 5

ESA Wonderful Wednesday - December 18, 2013

Happy Wonderful Wednesday!

UPDATED BROADCAST NEWS FLASH........ Well, NBC fooled us by an encore showing of the live production of "The Sound of Music" last Saturday night. So, I went hunting, right now my NBC affiliate indicates "It's A Wonderful Life" to be shown this coming Friday evening, December 20th, and again on Tuesday evening December 24th. Happy viewing!

I neglected to provide this answer last week to the trivia question. What was the name of the movie showing on the Bijou Theater Marquee.... "The Bells of St. Mary's". Henry Travers, as I mentioned, acted in both movies - Bells and IAWL! I found that to be an interesting link!

This week's IAWL trivia question.... The day it went so horribly wrong for George Bailey, loss of the money by Uncle Billy, a car accident, a wish to never have been born, and so on.... What day of the year was it? It only comes once per year… What day was it?

Are you ready for the holiday next week...? Last minute shopping, wrapping, decorating, baking, cooking.... What happened to sleeping??? Christmas is merely a week away. Having worked in retail (Mervyn's Stores #1 and #12) during High School and College, working the holiday season is stressful, but fun. Most people are in good spirits, but every once in a while, one finds a "Grinch"!  For me, this is the most WONDERFUL time of year as we see the good in one another, miracles can happen, and joy with peace is there for many peoples and lands. Maybe the feeling of this time of year should be felt all year round, the adult type of "Elf On The Shelf" of putting our best forward to those we come in contact with physically and virtually! There are angels looking over us and help us be the best we can be... just like how Clarence helped George to see that he had A WONDERFUL life after all! May the Blessings of this Season follow you throughout the New Year!

And, to answer a popular question.... I am nearly done knitting the hats! WoooooWhoooo! Delivery is expected this coming Friday morning.... Yeah! And yes, I'll have pictures on my phone to share as these "Grinch" hats are turning out to be pretty darn cute!

Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday to the following sisters (and brothers) for the coming week!

Jonathan “JonBoy” Henderson – December 20 of Chi Kappa, District 1, Texas State Council Presidential Assistant, and Grammie’s Favorite Boyfriend!
Susan Lumpkin – December 20 of Alpha Tau, District 6
Sue Self – December 20 of Gamma Phi, District 4
Valerie Dickens – December 21 of Beta Lambda, District 7, State Jr. Past President and Disaster Fund Chairman, and Outstanding ESA’er
Kasey Rhodes – December 21 of Pi Delta, District 1 and District Coordinator
Debra Kulovitz – December 21 of Theta Eta, District 11
Janell Lewallen – December 24 of Sigma Delta, District 8
Amanda Childs – December 26 of Lambda Alpha, District 8 and District Coordinator
*** There were no Christmas Day babies that I am aware of for the Texas State Council!

Sisters and Brothers, have a wonderful and merry Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with family and friends. May all the blessings of this special Christmas day, the celebration of Christ’s birth, stay in your hearts and souls!

ESA Wonderful Wednesday - December 11, 2013

Happy Wonderful Wednesday!

BROADCAST NEWS FLASH - Check your local NBC affiliate for the exact broadcast time of their showing of “It’s A Wonderful Life”. The movie is schedule for broadcast on Saturday, December 14th and again on Tuesday, December 24th on Christmas Eve.  I do not want you to miss it!

Did you guess the actor from the IAWL Trivia Question asked last week? Here is the question - What actor had a starring role in both IAWL and the movie showing on the marquee for the Bijou Theater in Bedford Falls?  What was the name of that movie? I thought it was really interesting that this actor was in both productions! Clue? Clothing and Real Estate! Did you guess? Did you? It was Henry Travers. Look him up on Wikipedia! He is from England.

"Be One, Get One... BOGO" Be a member and get a member is the theme for the membership drive announce by ESA Headquarters and Susanne Dullack earlier in November. The ESA website has more information about the pluses of this campaign and how to sign a commitment card for pledging a new member. If you do this, you get a special BOGO button to wear. I signed a card. You should as well. Check out the ESA website. There is always a wealth of information there!

I am keeping my blog entry short this week, as I am busily making a bunch “Grinch” and “Strawberry” knitted hats for one of my chapter sisters to give to the grand-kiddos. Christmas is less than two weeks away…. busy, busy, busy – woman’s work is never done!

The visit to District 4 was WONDERFUL filled with fun, food, and friendship! I left Dallas on Saturday when it was 17 degrees and arrived in San Antonio just an hour later to balmy weather of 35 degrees. Let me tell you that the collegiate chapter at Lady of the Lake is just precious. I had a great time with our younger members… they are a hoot! We gave them ideas to help them attend the Board Meeting in Garland and Convention this coming May.

Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday to the following sisters (and brothers) for the coming week!

Dena Atkison – December 14 of Epsilon Pi, District 5
Trish Saldana – December 14 of Sigma Delta, District 8

ESA Wonderful Wednesday - December 4, 2013

Happy Wonderful Wednesday!

BROADCAST NEWS FLASH - Check your local NBC affiliate for the exact broadcast time of their showing of “It’s A Wonderful Life”. The movie is schedule for broadcast on Saturday, December 14th and again on Tuesday, December 24th on Christmas Eve.  I do not want you to miss it!  I know there is at least one Texas member who has never seen this movie.... I will not mention any names, but it was announced at Installation in May! Lately she has been seen with a crown...

BTW...The count is increasing...; I have already watched IAWL four times and White Christmas twice on my iPod since the November Board Meeting. No telling how many more times I will watch them before we get to Christmas! And I am so excited as I finally get to see the "White Christmas The Musical" at Fair Park in Dallas just after Christmas on my sister's birthday... the 28th... Happy Birthday Nancy! Nancy's favorite Christmas movie is "White Christmas".  This means a good deal as I was hospitalized for emergency surgery in December 2011 and missed the production. I am so excited! Just like my ability to recite the lines from IAWL, Nancy, Holly, and I can recite the lines and sing the songs from "White Christmas"...

The IAWL Trivia Question for the week - What actor had a starring role in both IAWL and the movie showing on the marquee for the Bijou Theater in Bedford Falls?  What was the name of that movie? I thought it was really interesting that this actor was in both productions! Clue? Clothing and Real Estate! Did you guess?

Do not forget, our IC Representative for our Annual May 2014 is… Sandy Alexander, IC Treasurer 2013-2014. Please send her greetings over the next several months. Our TESAN will be sent to her electronically; and, I will include her in my weekly Blog postings. Sandy, we are looking forward to your visit in League City this coming May!  You will have a WONDERFUL Texas Welcome! Oh, by the way, Sandy’s contact information is…

With all the events, happenings, stressors of the Holiday Season, it sometimes is difficult to stay positive. I found this “wee” write-up on staying positive… “Often times our path seems to be filled with roadblocks, and we wonder why life is so difficult. Things happen that leave us feeling as though we have little control over our circumstances. This is a time to remember that hope is a gift we can give ourselves…. When we choose this attitude and tap into our inner reserves, we are rewarded with the knowledge of what we have learned. The decision to look forward, stay positive, and remain hopeful is a key that unlocks the door to possibilities, and, when shared, returns to renew the spirit… Hope is believing that miracles are positive!” (Marci, 2013)

Remember to send in your registration for the February State Council Board Meeting to District 11.  District 11 has arranged for a great entrance fee to tour the newly opened Presidential Library on SMU. When I went to IC Convention in Little Rock, the Peabody Hotel was right next to the Presidential Library there. I always regretted that Joyce and I did not take the chance to go.  In addition, when I was visiting with a few districts this fall, we talked about what a great opportunity it could be to go and see... So sign up and join me, Holly, Jon, Joyce and a host of others to take the tour to see what it is all about!  So get that Registration sent in! District 11 is waiting to hear from you!  I am looking forward to seeing you there... No excuses... No holidays to contend with, just a WONDERFUL opportunity to visit with your Texas Sisters and see the local sights, attractions, and shopping opportunities.

This coming weekend, weather permitting, I am traveling to District 4 to visit our Texas Sisters in San Antonio! I'll give a report next week of my wintery travels!

Convention City has asked me to pass along this directive when submitting your checks for May 2014 Convention Registration. Checks must be made out exactly like this – “Texas ESA State Convention”. The financial institution requires this to process the checks into the Convention City bank account. District Presidents; please pass this requirement onto the members of your district. A corrected form has been submitted for posting on the Web Site and in the TESAN.

Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday to the following sisters (and brothers) for the coming week!

Wanda Leith – December 5 of Beta Xi, District 6
Ashlyn Duran – December 6 of Delta Chi, District 4
Faye Ratliff – December 6 of Theta Alpha, District 7
