ESA Wonderful Wednesday - February 5, 2014

Happy Wonderful Wednesday!

It is so hard to believe that our third State Board Meeting is this coming weekend. If you have not made any plans for the weekend, please consider joining us! I am sure District 11 can fit you in, as it will be a WONDERFUL weekend! It is filled with a PPAC Open House, Field Trip to the Bush Presidential Library, Bingo benefiting the ESA Disaster Fund, and of course the  usual meetings. If you decide to come, please let Pat Anderson, President of District 11 know ASAP. Incidentally, the weather is cold…. Pack accordingly!

Do not forget to bring your donation commitment certificate for the literacy project, Literacy for Life. We will have LeeAnn Henderson, the “L for L” advocate collect the certificates during the meeting on Sunday. AND..... your rolls dimes for the March of Dimes! Barbara Atkinson, our State Project Director asked I remind you to bring the dimes. However, I am certain, Barbara will take any domination for the March of Dimes! She will not be able to attend this coming weekend, but I am certain her District 3 sisters will collect the donations over the weekend.

So there you have it! A great way to spend the weekend with your ESA Sisters and Wonderful causes to support! That is what ESA is all about….. Sisters helping others! Angels helping others!

Now for the IAWL trivia question from last week. We are coming up on the Academy Awards, the Oscars! In nearly every category IAWL was nominated for, another movie won Best Motion Picture in 1947. What is the name of that movie? It was “The Best Years of Our Lives" from Columbia Pictures at the 19th Academy Awards. Interestingly, this same movie won the following categories and each time IAWL was nominated as well. Can you name the folks who won in those categories? They were the following – Best Actor was Frederic March over Jimmy Stewart, Best Direction was William Wyler over Frank Capra, and Best Film Editing was Daniel Mandell over William Homebeck, all from “The Best Years of Our Lives”. Then there was one category neither that movie or IAWL won – what was the category and who won? It was Best Sound Recording that won for The Jolson Story from Columbia Studios. This was likely more trivia then you probably wanted to know, but I thought it was interesting. The Best Years was a terrific movie that starred Frederic March, Myrna Loy, Dana Andrews, Terresa Wright, and Virginia Mayo. The point of the story was to discuss the post-World War II lives of returning soldiers and their families. There were difficulties integrating back into the family, finding jobs, handling life-changing disabilities, working through the changes from being a veteran to becoming a civilian. What strikes me is that many of those same issues are happening today with our returning service men and women from the longest war in American History.

Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday to the following sisters (and brothers) for the coming week!
